Raise Main

Preparation

  1. Attach main halyard to head of the main
  2. Feed head of main sail fed into mast slot
  3. Locks main halyard clutch down
  4. Take up slack in main halyard

Raise the Mainsail

  1. Pit releases Outhaul
  2. Pit eases Vang
  3. Helm points boat into the wind
  4. Main eases main sheet
  5. Pit pulls in main halyard raising the main, hand over hand first then on the winch with one of the trimmers tailing, with bow jumping at the mast when possible
  6. Bow ensures the main feeds properly into the luff groove
  7. Main watches the mainsail as it goes up and calls out to pit when the desired luff tension has been achieved
  8. Main trims as needed to avoid flogging
  9. Bow/Pit attaches Cunningham to main and tightens
  10. Pit tightens Outhaul to desired depth
  11. Pit adjusts Cunningham to desired draft location
  12. Main trims to desired position
